Frozen Yogurt Treats For your Dog

It feels like summer just started. But here we are… approaching pretty much the last couple weeks of summer. The weather has been cooling down some. But, it sure is warm outside today. SO, I thought I would share one of my favorite home-made frozen treats that i make for my pups.

Introduction,

So, I love this recipe because honestly, it’s not too much of a specific recipe. It’s something I do different just about every time I make it. You have total freedom to experiment with lots of different dog-friendly ingredients with this one. But, I will give you a basic recipe to start off with. Then, you can have fun altering it based on what you have available in your kitchen, what your dog prefers or what you want to experiment with.

Ingredients / Utensils Needed:

- Plain Greek Yogurt (make sure there’s no sugar or flavoring)

- Peanut Butter OR Canned Pumpkin (I’ve used both before too) - for peanut butter look at the ingredients. Make sure peanuts are the only ingredient. Especially look for xylitol or birch sugar. This is highly toxic to dogs.

- Bowl & Spoon to stir mixture

- Silicone treat mold

(I will put a list of other things to try at the bottom of the blog.)

Instructions:

As I stated before, this recipe can be varied. I don’t usually measure exactly. I “eyeball” the amount of each ingredient until I think it looks good based on the quantity I want to make.

  1. Mix all ingredients together in a bowl (I use about half and half of Plain Greek Yogurt and Peanut Butter, or Pumpkin. You can start with a half cup of each and adjust as needed.)

  2. Place ingredients into the silicone treat mold.

  3. Place into freezer - allow to freeze for about an hour before serving.

  4. Pop a treat out of the mold and give it to your pup to enjoy! This is a great treat to keep in the freezer for the summer.

Other Ingredients to Try:

See my blog post: Good and Bad Foods for Dogs. You can experiment with just about anything that’s on the Good Food List.

You can put healthy foods like blueberries, apples or cucumber into a food processor or blender. Chop them up in there, then add the greek yogurt. Blend them together, then put that mixture into the treat molds and freeze.
